Surpass Central includes some very powerful and flexible tools for designing your own reports to create virtually any type of report you can imagine, for whatever purpose you might have in mind. The possibilities are endless, but might seem overwhelming at first. Our goal for this webinar will be to help participants become comfortable and proficient with the tools at hand and to be able to fulfill their own information reporting needs, whatever those might be. Rather than focusing on creating a specific type of report, we’ll be teaching you how to use Central’s features to create any report you might need.

The end of the school year is a very busy time for school media specialists. We’ll make sure you’re prepared with all the knowledge you’ll need to accomplish common end-of-year tasks such as inventory, managing patron records, and other “spring cleaning” tasks for your Surpass database. We’ll also prepare you for the beginning of the next school year with information about adding/importing new students, setting up the calendar, and more. This webinar will be geared toward schools, but representatives of colleges and all other types of libraries are welcome and could certainly benefit from this information.

Bookbags and Patron Groups are extremely useful but probably under-utilized features of Central and Safari. Having an understanding of how Bookbags and Patron Groups work can save you time and provide greater flexibility in cataloging, creating reading lists, circulation, reports, and a variety of other tasks. We here at Surpass often encounter users who don’t know what Bookbags or Patron Groups are or what they do. If that includes you, then you should definitely attend this webinar! Safari 6 is all about customizability, and in this webinar, we’ll focus in-depth on one very versatile feature of Safari. Safari’s “Explore” feature provides patrons with an alternative means of navigating your library’s collection in a more visual way by clicking on graphical buttons that are tied to specific topics, reading lists, or other library resources. While Safari comes with a useful “starter set” of buttons, your patrons can get more mileage out of using the Explore feature if you customize it to reflect your library’s holdings and your patrons’ needs and interests. You can create your own Explore buttons with customized graphics, change the functions of the buttons so that they bring up the results that you want patrons to see, and even change the entire navigational structure to better suit your library’s needs. You’ll learn how to do all that and more in this webinar.
